Mellie Cornell
Melodi “Mellie” Ruby Cornell appeared in Popmundo on the 6 of February 2008.
She is the daughter of Blues legend, Marlon Stone and Punk Rock Queen and It's POP Executive Editor, Beth Christou.
Childhood
Mellie describes her childhood as happy. Shortly after her birth, Marlon and Beth called it quits on their relationship, however made a firm commitment to parenting with Jackson and Mellie spending unlimited amounts of time with both parents. Mellie is overheard talking highly of her parents and relishing her role as a sister. She has two older brothers, Lucius & Jackson and a string of younger siblings in Mia, Zachary, Stormy, Tilly, Elmo, Annabelle, Saphirra Tiara, Zoey, Mila, Aiden, Ellie, Max and Jesse.
Since she was 13 years old, she was had a long-standing relationship with Malaki Maynard. Their love affair was obvious, often not straying from each others side. Mellie fell pregnant by accident, which after the initial shock brought much joy to the couple. Unfortunately, just halfway through the pregnancy, Malaki fell unwell and passed away.
Mellie's best friends and siblings, Aaron Johnson and Mia Christou rallied around her and supported her throughout her pregnancy.
Asher Marlon Cornell was born on Day 20, Year 52 after 12 hours of labour. Mellie describes it as the happiest day of her life.
Just before ASher was born, Mellie made a new friend in Jack Cornell. Both shy, met when studying in Rio at the Big Bang on Valentine Days in Year 52. They went out for ice-cream and remained in contact via text message and phone calls. The attraction between the two was undeniable, but Mellie was afraid to put her heart on the line after the loss of Malaki. After a firm talk with her sister, Mia, Mellie decided to take the plunge and let her feelings go. Jack visited Mellie whilst in the last month of her pregnancy for her birthday in Toronto, followed by returning the week Asher was born to meet the little guy.
On the eve of Mellie leaving for the Blues 8 Tour, they decided to make things official and Jack is following the tour in order to be with Mellie. Mellie has announced that after this tour, she will quit touring for a while to spend time with her new love and her son.
In Year 53, Jack and Mellie made their union official and married in Buenos Aires in front of friends and family. Jack formally adopted Asher, together the trio lived happily in Toronto for a number of years.
Mellie took a few years off from public life, and released a statement via her record label stating that she would be returning on the road in Year 56.
Second Generation Blues
Second Generation Blues was formed on Mellie's 16th Birthday on 22 July 2010.
Originally the band was to be a duet between Mellie and Malaki. However, it became a solo band after Malaki's unfortunate passing.
Mellie & Malaki began a World Tour in Year 51, but had to cancel many shows as Mellie was too heartbroken to continue the tour. Mellie attempted to pick up touring again in Year 52, but has announced she would quit touring for a while to spend time with her new love, Jack and newborn son, Asher.
Jack joined Second Generation Blues, in Year 54. The duo worked hard for two years before announcing a tour in Year 56.
