Helena Gillstad

Helena appeared in Popmundo 2006-05-02. Helena was born in Stockholm but is a permanent resident of Istanbul.

Character's history.

Her parents got divorced at an early age. Helena planned on going to New York to study film at N.Y.U., but was never accepted. She hates racism and unjust societies.

Her teenage dreams came true when she created and started to tour with the band Sourcreme, a solo popact which played mostly easylistened vocalist songs, but she didn't had big success. At the time her mind was divided between the music, her fatherless son Geir, the boyfriend Stefan and her wish to be a doctor. She used the income from music to be able to afford the medicine studies. At the end of her education she and Stefan moved to the new city Istanbul to live there and where her skills was deeply needed. She became active in the project to create a working health program and was also for a long time the president of İstanbul Tabipler Odası, the communication platform for Istanbul doctors.

She spent most of her time in the city curing people, teaching medicine skills, managing her company Northern Lights and became a well known person at the streets of Istanbul. Hers and Stefan's daughter Saga was born and life was to filled with personal stuff to have good room for music. However Helena and Stefan grew apart and they decided to split up. Helena started to focus more on music and switched bandname and genre. She started to work hard under the name of JOKK and the Jazz scenes was her goal. At this time she met Şevki and fell deeply in love. She now tries to balance her musical career and her personal life in a way that doesn't let either of them suffer. Helena and Şevki has a son, Varg, who is somewhat strange to his appearance.

Helena is the editor of It's POP, Stockholm Edition.

After the switch to Jazz JOKK has steadily climbed the charts. From a nobody on the musical scenes Helena is now well known. Best rank so far (May 2008) is #14 on the global Jazz chart.
