Derek Johnson

Derek Johnson is a Nu-Metal electronic musician - one of the most successful turntable/keyboard artists in Popomundo.

His parents got divorced at an early age. Derek never went to school but received daily teachings by his mother. He enjoys travelling the world in search for new adventures. He can't stand horror movies. Derek was scarred when he fell off a tricycle as a kid.

Derek appeared in the Popomundo universe 06/07/2005.

Derek is a permanent resident of London.

Derek is the president of Brux Inc.

Derek Johnson is a promiscuous person with great charm and mind melting looks. Derek's brain department is of perfect IQ. Derek can deliver some terrible vocals and show off some perfect musical talents.

Derek's time in Popomundo has been marked with tales of love, hate and sex. After losing his virginity at an early age to Cindy Marshall, Derek quickly saw his destiny to be the best lay in the game. He saw his chance to shine when the great Edith Hellewell offered him apprenticeship to learn the finer arts of sexual pleasure. From that moment on a great partnership was formed and, when Edith became officially the game's best lay and only Tantric master, she saw fit to teach only one person: Derek Johnson. In a twist fit for a bestseller, Derek became the best male sex-God in Popomundo only to find that someone else had joined the ranks of the Tantric Masters - his original love, Cindy Marshall! Cindy's premature death on December 2nd, 2006, was a massive shock to Derek. With only weeks to go before the start of an organised World Tour on which Derek and Cindy were travelling together to practice their shared skills, Cindy decided that her Popo-life had taken a turn for the worse and promptly ended it with a bottle of poison. DJ spent the next few weeks in mourning and dedicated his shows on the Cerberus tour to her memory.

Derek is still, and always will be, a loyal follower of Edith - her friendship has already set Derek on his way in the corporate and social world and for that he is eternally grateful. Currently he works as CEO at the Garden Of Edith pop club in London. Derek also has two children with former bandmate of Edith's, the late Vera Feltham. His current (hopefully permanent) love interest is the gorgeous, if slightly deranged, Rhonda Carpenter. Rhonda gave birth to the couple's first child, Hannibal Carpenter, on June 4th 2007.

Aside from his long-standing, although often long-separated relationship with Rhonda, Derek also considers the following people to be his friends in-game: Peter McGinnes, Rhonda Nuttall, Holly Hipper, Debbie Newbury, Charlotte Barnes, Cindy Denton, Renee Seymour, Michael Maynard and Tara Barber. His real-life friends are Dylan Sun, Jarvis Buchanan, Andy D'Ambrosio, Adrian Lauret, Carson Aguilera, Frank Lacey and Johnny Johnston.

Derek achieves a 4* performance on stage . He is an accomplished songwriter currently working on his advanced songwriting skills. Derek was at the very first popo-revolution and personally kicked Melvin in the nudgers during the fracas. He has had plastic surgery once.

Derek was one half of the first ever Popomundian couple to have a tantric snuggle, and just in time: Edith was in the process of teaching the skill to Ileana Kok.

After a slow start to his musical career, in which his first act Crystal Method made little headway in the industry, Derek formed Burst Mode Squad. With the aid of some real-life friends, Johnny Johnston, Miguel Angel Templado, Cabot Chappell and Anthony Griffin, together with John Bruce and Stephen Green, BMS prepared to take on the world.

After some initial success, the stresses of touring got too much for slackers Anthony Griffin and Cabot Chappell and they left, unannounced, to form a punk band with lower expectations. Although a major setback, Burst Mode Squad recovered and, after culling the dead weight of Stephen Green, proceeded to rise through the Heavy Metal charts to establish themselves firmly in the Top 100 Heavy Metal artists.

Fate, however, was still not through with BMS. After the “suicide” of Anthony Griffin and subsequent (although a little preemptive) reincarnation as Lionel Caddick, the band were again torn apart with the departure of lead singer Miguel Angel Templado. Caddick's trash-talking evidently proving too much for the weak Latino as he jumped ship to Spaghetti Bandits.

The ongoing feud between the two bands, stemming from this unnecessary vehemence from a decidedly sociopathic Caddick and his band of lackies was only recently tempered by the unfortunate smiting of Templado and his bandmate Defoe Torrence in a poorly-aimed act of karma-induced vengeance by the Popo-Gods.

Burst Mode Squad disbanded in May 2007, at which point Derek joined good friend Pete McGinnes in the world's reigning Heavy Metal champions DarkerShadeOfBlack.
