Charlotte grew up in London and started out in the godawful solo project Grrlz Just Wanna Get Drunk. She dropped this act after 2 shows and joined up with fellow London Punk Rock chick Edith Czekalski in Tanya-Taze. They set off for the U.S.A. for a tour with Melbourne based guitarist Natalie Glover and New York based drummer Linnie Dempsey. Things didn't work out for the adventurous girls and most shows were cancelled due to one or more bandmembers being in the wrong city. With no income and most of her wages used to pay off debts, Charlotte decided to leave Tanya-Taze on 18/02/2005 to form Bad Charlotte.
Charlotte appeared in the Popomundo universe 2/1-2005.
Her father died when she was very young. Charlotte decided to go for a career in modeling instead of going to school. She likes to read a good book. She dislikes loud and obnoxious people. Charlotte dreams of making it big in the world of entertainment.
Charlotte is a permanent resident of Amsterdam.
Charlotte started out working as a bartender in various clubs in London, which never seemed to last due to arguments over wages that turned to violence. While touring the U.S. with Tanya-Taze she started working as a CEO for the Zantetsuken, owned by Michael Hopper. After leaving Tanya-Taze, she removed all the ties to her past and got a job as CEO of Club Tikka in Amsterdam, working for Björn Billbo, who guided her and inspired her to punk rock greatness. When mr. Billbo opened up a new club called the Casa Battlo Club in Barcelona, he requested that she'd run the club.
As her work experience increased and Bad Charlotte grew into a serious band, she one day decided that she wanted to start a business of her own. She handed in her 2 week's notice and chased her lifelong dream, her very own record studio Radio-Aktiv Yak Records. Although the studio failed to gain any succes in the recording business, she proved to have a keen eye for business and released highly succesful singles by bands as the Nine Inch Nails Experience, Angel of Heaven, That Name Is Already Taken and her very own Bad Charlotte.
Whilst she didn't want to let her baby go, Don Broos convinced her to join the Amsterdam Police force and keep the streets safe. This career change quickly met a halt, as she resigned quickly after a vandalism incident in Amsterdam involving Dean Whitley and a can of beer. She now runs the oldest club in Berlin, Der Bierbauch, but plans on selling it. She hasn't got a clue what she'll do after that.
Charlotte has played in 3 different bands:
-Grrlz Just Wanna Get Drunk: A very unoriginal solo-project which was abandoned after 2 gigs.
-Tanya-Taze: A small band, formed by fellow London punk-rock chick Edith Czekalski, which had dreams of stardom but never got anywhere near it. This is where she learned how to play the bass and write decent songs, namely S.C.U.M. (The Yuppie Song), Tomorrow Will Be The Followup To Yesterday And Today and Punk Rock Nothing.
The Lineup consisted of Edith Czekalski on vocals, Natalie Glover on guitar, Charlotte Situnayake on bass and Linnie Dempsey behind the drums. Natalie Glover was placed six feet under on 13/05/2005 in Toronto. Although she and Charlotte never got along (Charlotte still blames her for all the failures of Tanya-Taze), she still denies having anything to do with it. Linnie Dempsey eventually passed away on 22/11/2005 in Los Angeles. Edith czekalski continued to tour and tried out a few new bandmembers, but never matched the succes Charlotte Situnayake would get. She died in Stockholm on 14/3/2006.
-Bad Charlotte: Everything Charlotte Situnayake owns she owes to the succes of Bad Charlotte, with the exception of her bass guitar (which she bought after getting a loan from the bank of the late Michael Hopper).
Starting as a joke by two small teenagers who were bragging about causing a new musical revolution at the Live Aid II festival in Melbourne, this band took a road noone in their right mind would wonder down: the road of Anything-But-Punk-Rock. They refused to be shoved into boxes, they refused to do what everyone else was doing and they refused to give up, no matter how much obstacles the Gods placed on their road.
Although the idea was created by Charlotte Situayake and Filip Hermar, the second member to join the band was Kristen Farley, who took on the role of drummer. Filip Hermar eventually joined as guitarist after the Live Aid II festival in Melbourne and Luuk Bouazra completed the group on vocals.
Although the first few singles (released by Sexploitation Records AM, owned by Charlotte's former lover Nigel Cameron) failed to produce succes (a few songs managed to get airplay and one even became a #1 radio hit!!), their fifth single (released on the newly formed Radio-Aktiv Yak Records label) Alkmaar!! sold over 80.000 copies and marks the beginning of their succes. Their commercial highlight was the release of Retalliation Song (featuring Retalliation Song and Outspoken, both written by Luuk Bouazra) which sold over 200000 copies, whilst the For the Love of Pablo EP (containing Bring Down the Mayor, by Filip Hermar, and The Man Who Sold Amsterdam, by Charlotte Situnayake) was their artistic highlight. Their biggest radio hits were June Weather (#1 hit written by Kristen Farley) and De Laatste Reis (#1 hit written by Filip Hermar).
After 10 fairly succesful popoyears of blood, sweat and tears, Charlotte Situnayake and Filip Hermar started fighting. Filip tore apart the Radio-Aktiv contract, which in return made Charlotte write the song Die, Die & Die Again. After she played the song at the Live Aid III festival (Stockholm edition), Filip saw no other choice than kicking her out of the band.
Charlotte owns JotjeYakFunkYeah, the company in control of Radio-Aktiv Yak Records, Der Bierbauch, Eläkeläiset, Club Jotje Rocking [CJR], Czekalski Tattoos (named after her former Tanya-Taze bandmember), Het Wapen van Bergen, Yakstreet Boys Records and Chuck Yak's Secret Stash.
Charlotte is as clean as a whistle, save for some early failed debt repayments from years ago. She was never charged and thus never went to jail.
