Bernie's first foray into the music industry came when stumbled into a local hip-hop club where friends convinced him to enter a battle competition. Lucky for him famous music scout Bert Karlsson was watching in the audience, Karlsson recommended Bernie to local record exec Frank Blomdahl and his music career was born.
Bernie's first project took the form of x2, a hip-hop band that would propel him into the limelight of London's undeground scene. x2's highlights include turning down an invite for the first ever popomundo festival becuase Bernie believed that the festival “wasn't all that special”. x2 went on to release multiple singles but never quite breaking out of the London scene that had been their home for so long.
After months of rumours that Bernie was unhappy with his place in the hip-hop scene he left to form OneWayTrip, the band that would go on to rock the world! He was joined by Michael Hopper, Katie Jagpal, and Connie Perkins. The band went on to become arguably the most succesful band Popomundo has ever seen winning two major festivals and dominating the charts.
During his time in OneWayTrip, Bernie was reported to have had an intense love affair with Rosa Keohane. The pair were often seen together and were also said to be engaged in the popular press. Unfortunately the couple drifted apart just as the band were starting to hit top form and Bernie found solace in fellow musician, Janice Ocampo, who produced Bernie's only child, Audrey Ocampo.
He also had a brief spell in DJ Killingspree, which he later admitted was mere a vanity project. Releasing a genre hopping album containing some of his early work from x2 mixed with the new sound he had helped to create with OneWayTrip.
He then returned to reform OneWayTrip with his old band mate, Michael Hopper. The project was sadly ended by the death of his friend and Bernie vowed to never perform under the name OneWayTrip again.
He then went on to play guitar for Disillusion.
Bernie unforunately passed away on 23rd September 2006 when he took his own life. Details about his death are still unclear although it is widely thought that Harris still suffered major depression from the death of his former bandmate.
