History
- Pablo Buijing became the first elected mayor of Amsterdam. Second mayor was Paulus de Beer.
- The city made international headlines, when Mayor Joost Huijsmans shut down all ways to get out of the city in order to chase criminals, that came to the city to take part in a crime competition. No criminals were arrested during this action, but travelling bands and locals were locked in the city for a day. Joost Huijsmans stepped down as a consequence, but got re-elected.
