Police skills:

First, important police skills! (requirements for learning skill) This is how I rank them.

Basic Detective

With this skill you are able to interrogate characters in Popomundo. Go interact, and choose interrogate. How much info you will get, depends on how many stars you have in this skill.

Fingerprint recognition

In order to use this skill, you need:

This skill is useful when you find evidence (fingerprints) and you need to investigate it.
Fingerprints are left from tagging, breaking & entering, shoplifting etc.
To get a successful investigation, depends on how many stars you have in this skill.

Image analysis

In order to use this skill, you need:

This skill is useful when you find evidence (video footage), and you need to investigate it.
Video footages are left from theft.
To get a successful investigation, depends on how many stars you have in this skill.

Special Weapons and Tactics

In order to use this skill, you need

  • 3* in Basic detective
  • Be a VIP.

This skill is useful when a wanted person is hiding in a locked locale(apartment), and the local police are looking for him.
You need to be hired as a SWAT officer to be able to do SWAT missions. The CoP in the city is in charge of sending out his SWAT team on missions, so if you see something, or know someone is hiding, tell the CoP, and he will order a stakeout.
When SWAT is fighting crime, both they and the criminal may get shot. You cannot die from this, but if you get shot you will loose 20% health.

Undercover Operations

In order to use this skill, you need:

  • 3* in Basic detective.

This skill is only useful for the CoP (Chief of Police). Undercover operations are necessary to be able to work undercover. It also improves your ability to do stakeouts. When stakeouts are successful, the CoP can send out his SWAT team on a mission.

DNA Analysis

In order to use this skill, you need:

  • 3* in Basic detective
  • 3* in Basic Medicine.

This skill is needed when you find evidence after arson.

Animal Training

This skill is useful to find criminals that hide out in crowded locales. You need to get a tracker dog from the police station to find them.

Police uniform

In order to get your uniform you need to work as a police officer. Only the CoP (Chief of Police) can give uniforms to his officers. The CoP has to be in the city to be able to give uniforms.

Laws

All new officers should read their city laws.

To check their laws, do this:

  1. Click on Community
  2. Traveller’s guide
  3. Choose city
  4. City Details
  5. Crime & Punishment
  6. Click on each crime to see more info

Police Work

Finding criminals

In order to find criminals, you need to check the wanted-charts.

  1. Click on Community
  2. Click on Charts
  3. Click on Law & Order
  4. Click on Most Criminal
  5. Click on the city you work for
  6. Click on a persons name to see if that person is staying in the city

Some characters are stealthy which means you cannot see their location unless you stay in the same locale as them. If a person is wanted by the locale police in the city you work for, you are now able to arrest that person.

How to arrest criminals

In order to arrest a criminal, he needs to be wanted by the locale police, and you need to wear your police uniform and be working as a police officer in that city.

  1. Move to the locale where the person is currently hanging out.
  2. Click on the persons name
  3. Under “interact” you should be able to see “Arrest”. Click it.

Now, before the person actually gets arrested you need to fill out a case report.

Filling out a case report/form

A case report is paperwork you need to fill out so that the judges can see what the person is wanted for, and to see if more info in the case is added.

  • 1. Click on arrest
  • 2. Choose crime

You should be able to see what the person is wanted for. Example: WANTED FOR: 2007-10-24 Vandalism Tromsø

  • 3. Copy and paste that into the white text box.
  • 4. Add more info if needed

It is important that the text is written in English when filling out this report. This will make it a lot easier for police officers and judges around the popoworld to read, when investigating and when giving sentence.

  • 5. Click OK

The person should now be arrested.

More investigation

An example:
A person named Jason broke into an apartment. He was, after the police investigated evidence in the apartment, automatically wanted for 1 case of B&E (Breaking and Entering).
He was thrown in jail by a police officer. It said “1 case of B&E” in the case report, because this is what he was wanted for. This is also what the judges would trial him for, since there was evidence found connection him to this crime.
The police officer interrogated Jason, and gained recent activities done by Jason. He could now see that Jason also stole 5 items from the apartment and dumped them outside.
This info was not available for the judges, and was not written in the case report.
The police officer contacted the judge(s), told them what info he gained, and Jason was finally judged for 1x B&E and 5x theft.

Tagged Items

When you buy items, you can tag them at the local police station. This is recommended to all players. If you get your items stolen, it will make it a lot easier for police officers to return them back to the owner.

If you find tagged items, with someone else’s name on it, you should pick it up and deliver it to your local police station.

Remember; DO NOT PICK UP UNTAGGED ITEMS. You will get wanted for doing that.

Evidence

There are four types of evidence.

  • Video footage (theft)
  • Fingerprints (vandalism/burglary)
  • Match Sticks (arson)
  • Weird Receipt (embezzlement, you need Basic Accounting to be able to investigate it)

When crime is done, evidence is usually left behind in the locale. To be able to check if there is evidence in a locale, do this:

  • 1. Move to the locale
  • 2. Click on Items & Equipment in the locale

If there is evidence, you should be able to see one of the three or more above. If not, someone has already investigated it.

  • 3. Click Investigate

If you have good enough skills, the investigation/analysing of the evidence will be successful.

  • 4. Go to your character sheet to see which person who did the crime.

You should be able to see something like this:

Example:

I found evidence in <locale name> connecting <criminal’s name> to <crime>. Next on the chopping block!

You have to wait 15 minutes between investigating 2 evidence of the same type. (i.e 2 fingerprints).

But you can investigate 1 fingerprint and 1 videofootage without waiting 15 minutes.

Expiry of evidence

  • Video footages disappear after 3 days.
  • Fingerprints disappear after some (unknown) weeks
  • Match sticks disappear after some (unknown) days/weeks

Where to start searching for evidence

  • The first place you should check is public places and locales owned by the city. Places like parks, airport, travel routes and so on.
  • Other places, non public and not owned by the city, like shops, should be checked at least every 3rd day.
  • When clicking on a locale, you may see that it says: “Graffiti: <text>” in bolded text. This means that someone did graffiti on the locale and you may find evidence there.
  • If you cannot find evidence, then someone has already been there before you and investigated the evidence.

Bigger and Stealthy Criminals

If you want to catch the big guys, more work has to be put into the investigation. They are most likely stealthy, which means you cannot see where they are hanging out, unless you are in the same locale as them.

To gain as much info as possible, and locate these guys, do this:

  • First, I recommend arresting them first, and then interrogate later. Otherwise they might be quicker than you. And that would suck, wouldn’t it?
  • Look at his relationships. Lots of friends in one particular city? Check their diary, see if he did interact them. He may be with them, or at least in that city.
  • Look at his miscellaneous info. Dates from the crimes in the cities he’s been in. See a pattern? Connect this with the travel routes in each city. Maybe you can predict where he is heading.
  • Is this person an artist? Check his band, and see where they are heading. Check their concert dates and his past concerts. He may not attend at his concerts. Most of the big guys doesn’t have band, but this is useful if a stealthy wanted person is doing a world tour.
  • Look at his Employment & Housing. Does the person have any apartments? Are there any characters in these apartments? If you see a stealthy character in his apartment, this could be him/her.
  • You see both stealthy and non-stealthy? Check the non-stealthy persons diary. Did he/her interact with the stealthy one?

Most wanted chart

When you find evidence and successfully analyse it, the criminals name will now be able to be seen on the “Most wanted” chart.

Remember, you CAN'T arrest criminals who is out of town (unless you work as a Special Agent), nor arrest someone who is wanted in another city.

Graffiti painting

Graffiti painting is possible in Popomundo. Some cities (check their laws) have made it illegal to bring spray cans into their city. People who do so, will get wanted by the police for smuggling.

It is only possible to tag locales what are 'public only' or City Singularity can be tagged. No matter if they are owned by city or private company.

Like parks, banks, factories, airport, travel routes and so on. You will find these buildings under “Recreational”, “City Services”, “Industrial” and “Travel routes” when browsing your city.

I recommend checking these places at least twice a day.

Theft

Theft can be done everywhere, but the most common places are parks, shops, gym and airport.

I recommend checking shops at least every 3rd day since shoplifting is more common now.

Stakeouts

  • In order to be able to do stakeouts, you need Undercover Operation skill.
  • Only the CoP can issue a stakeout, and it takes approximately 4 hours before results are given.
  • The results can be checked in the CoP's diary.
  • When a stakeout is succesful, the CoP can issue a SWAT mission to arrest the wanted person.

Bonuses?

When arresting a criminal, he will stay in jail until a judge looks into his case. When a sentence is given by the judge, you will receive a cash bonus for arresting that person.

How much money you get is different from city to city.
