FIXME Update to new schedule.

It's Pop

Click here to go to the It's Pop Calendar

It's Pop magazine was created to hold the latest news and thoughts about the Popomundo universe as seen by the players themselves. All published articles reward the author with a small paycheck as a token of our appreciation.

  • The News section is where you will find articles, interviews and letters to It's Pop. Articles are longer pieces that report and creatively discuss everyday life in Popomundo. Interviews are question and answer sessions involving interesting people throughout popomundo, sharing details of their lives. Letters to It's Pop are your responses to what you read each week. Tell us what you think and challenge the community to think about it as well.
  • The Classifieds section contains easy access to many of the game's elements which you might be looking for. If you're new to the game this is a perfect place to get a job, a record contract, or book a show.
  • The Comics section showcases original comics that illustrate life in Popomundo, all of them drawn by Popomundo players!
    • Comic strips should be in .gif or .jpg format. They should be in standard horizontal daily comic strip format and 714 pixels wide. (Calvin & Hobbes, Snoopy, Garfield etc.) Photographs are not considered comics and will not be published.
    • All comics must be original artwork created by popmundo players and must be about popomundo. Do not submit comics you find on the internet, even if they are about music and seem relevant to the game.

Submitting your work to the magazine

To submit your work to the magazine simply click on Submissions in the magazine menu and type away! The magazine is released every week on Wednesdays. If you hope to get your stuff published for the next edition you should have it submitted at least a couple of days in advance. The editors have the final say about publishing your piece as an Article, Interview or Letter. Most editors prefer that you submit before Sunday evening so they have enough time to go over all articles.

Check the Submissions page regularly. The editing staff will sometimes leave a comment for you, asking for changes and revisions before publishing your submission. Please read the editor's advice and consider making the requested changes to the piece. You can only have five submissions in draft at any time, so make sure to work on the pieces the editors ask you to change so they can be published, making room for more submissions.

Articles submitted to the magazine shouldn't be shorter than at least a couple of paragraphs. If you have simple press releases or tidbits of shorter information that you wish to share with the other players, please use the forum.

Basic Guidelines

It's Pop won't publish everything it receives. The editing staff is looking for creative stories, interviews and letters that give everyone a glimpse into everday life in Popomundo. The possibilities are endless, but there are some things that It's Pop is not looking for:

  • Band and Locale advertising is not allowed. Please advertise in the Classifieds, the city forums, or the personal ads.
  • Submitting basic game information needs to be done creatively. It's Pop will not publish pieces that give strategy guide style advice. That is what the the Help section and the forums are for. To publish your game advice in It's Pop, find a creative way to talk about it as a part of daily life in Popomundo.
  • In general, submissions that are simply just announcements (“We're Band X! We Rock!!!!” or “I'm Susie Noob. OMG POPO ROXXX!!!”) will not be published. Find a more creative and detailed way to introduce yourself or to discuss your next concert
  • Reviews of specifically named locales cannot be published in It's Pop. Reviews give either a positive or negative opinion of a locale, and It's Pop won't contribute to the promotion or ridicule of a locale.
  • It is OK to name locales in your submissions as long as the name is only used to refer to a place. “I walked through Hyde Park tonight on my way to my concert at Club Pop” is OK.

Things to Remember

All submissions to the magazine should be about the Popomundo game world. Submissions discussing things not related to the game in any way will not be published - this includes articles about real world musical artists. All submissions should be written in the spirit of role playing.

The editors reserve the right to make changes, corrections and any other revisions to your work they believe are necessary before your submission is ready to be published.

Whether writing or drawing something for It's Pop, please remember that your work must not break the rules found in the Rules of Conduct or the Content Agreement. The It's Pop staff will also consider these rules when reviewing your submission and may reject anything that appears to break them.

Do's and Dont's

One of the best things you can do before you submit anything to It's Pop would be to read the magazine regularly to become familiar with the sorts of articles that are being published. Understanding what the editors are looking for will go a long way towards the creation of quality submissions.

Do's

  • Understand the guidelines laid out above.
  • Be creative and write from your character's point of view.
  • Be detailed and try to make at least three good points about the subject you are discussing.
  • Tell a story that is entertaining, informative and/or helpful to everyone
  • Review your work before you submit it, and check it against recent articles published in the magazine. Does it measure up to those standards?

Dont's

  • Don't make detailed development suggestions for changes to the game. Use the Development forum instead.
  • Don't submit information that can be found elsewhere in the game, for example, a show summary.
  • Don't insist that the article be published globally. Let the editors decide where the article will go.
  • Don't forget to check back on your submissions regularly to see if the editors have left comments for you
  • Don't wait until Monday or Tuesday to submit your work. Get it in by the weekend please.
