Chats

“Come and chat with us!” Yes, it's so much fun you will get addicted. The forums are a good way to ask questions and get a response, but for roleplay and social chit-chat, nothing beats a fully interactive real-time chat.

Chat servers

Popmundo

Popmundo has an “inofficial official” IRC server. It's inofficial because it's not supported nor advertised by the game developers in any way, but official because it runs on Popmundo's servers. Official chat language is “English”.

Freenode

There is also an alternative chat with less restrictive rules, created by the Popmundo players themselves. It resides in the Freenode IRC-network. Official chat language is “English”.

Nickname rules

You have to use your Popmundo nick in the chat. Since IRC is restricted to nicknames using the letters A-Z (no accents and no spaces), you have to alter your Popmundo name to that format to be valid and usable.

Which basicly means, if your name is Zoë Lövgren, your nickname should be ZoeLovgren.

When your IRC software asks to enter your nick, do it as in the about examples. To later change your nick after connecting, you do it by typing the command /nick into the chat window. For example to change nick into JohnDoe: /nick JohnDoe

IRC-clients

Accessing the chat inside Popmundo via the game itself has been disabled, and the only way to get in is by using a dedicated IRC-client, such as for example mIRC, ChatZilla, Konversation, Colloquay etc. or a web based IRC frontend, such as Mibbit. Depending on your taste, preference and operating system you should pick one that suits you.

Mibbit

If you want to enter chat quickly, without installing any additional software (good for trying out!) we recommend using Mibbit.

  • For alternative chat, select from the IRC server list: 'Freenode'. Enter your nickname and select channel '#Popmundo'.
  • For chat on Popmundo servers, click server, and enter the address
    chat.popmundo.com:7000

. Enter your nickname and select channel '#Global'

ChatZilla

If you use the 'Firefox' web browser, you can easily install ChatZilla for accessing IRC chat. It's completely free to use.

Opera

The Opera web browser has built-in support for IRC.

mIRC

Windows users can use mIRC. It's free to try out, but carries a registration fee later on.

Hint: Chat is usually most busy in the evening (Central European Time) and weekends.
