Genre: Punk Rock
Starting Date: 2005-01-29
Disbanded: 2007-01-03
Final Members: Otis Fitzpatrick (AKA The Otis) and Toby Bess (AKA The Second Best)
PPP was originally founded under the name of maronies by trumpet player Israel Garland. He played solo for over a month, until lead guitarist Otis Fitzpatrick joined the band in early March. After building some fame in the Americas and Western-Europe (with their share of mood and health problems), singer Toby Bess was admitted to the band on April 28th. With show qualities around above average, drummer Tom Thurston entered the band in early August. Because he refused to interact with the other members and for other reasons, he was fired after a week. The bandmembers then decided to keep the band as it was, even releasing a single “Threesomes are more fun!” to commemorate this.
During the coming months, as showquality stagnated around decent/nice, Otis was assigned bandleader cause of Israel's vacations and occasional inactiveness. The name was also changed, as Maronies could now boast a capital M.
Near the end of November, the band finally decided to start working on their stage skills and show quality increased rapidly. During Popomundo Festival IV, only 2 months later, the band played a terrific show, landing them an 18th place overall. Many good punk bands quit after the festival which, combined with the increase in showquality, cause the band to shoot up into the top 10 of the punk rankings in no time. They also signed a new record contract with The Punk Rock Prophecy (where Otis was CEO), breaking their previous contract with Midnight Productions after a year of loyal service (and the occasional stocking error).
Tensions began to rise in the band as Israel became less and less active, leading to a halt in their growth. Finally, early March, Otis announced his planned departure (on April 11th, 1 year, 1 month, 1 week and 1 day after joining maronies) in the band forum. However, upon reading this, Israel immediately quit the band without ever explaining why. Neither Otis nor Toby still keep in contact with him. Otis was however set on going solo, so Toby started looking for a new band. After flirting with Skarred, which eventually led nowhere, they both noticed that they were now a real threat to the top bands and decided to stay together. Several names were thought of and after a period as Toby & Otis, they settled on Psychedelic Pudding Punks, inspired by a chat session between Otis and Prophecy Productions boss Stephan Adamson.
As PPP, they soon released some very succesful singles, of which We're In Charge even shot to #27 on the eternal top selling singles chart after only 2 weeks. This was a promise of better things to come. Meanwhile, they've also reached the #1 spot on the punk rock artist rankings, which they would hold for several months. PPP also shot up in the Who's Winning chart, even spending a week at #2, before falling back to a low of #8.
In May 2006 Toby became the band's second perfect songwriter, filling the void left when Israel quit. This has given them another boost on their way to becoming Popo's #1 artist.
During the 2 months that followed, PPP participated in the Punk Rampage tour, during which they became one of the top three live bands in the world and they also reached the top in personal fame, with their SQ exceeding 80%. They also went on to win the Nashville edition of Live Aid III. During these months they often played mind melting shows, even peaking with an earth shaking performance.
Unfortunately, diseases appeared in the Popoverse during July, hitting PPP quite hard on the first day of the breakout. Cause they could no longer engage in social activity, their SQ dropped very quickly and combined with their bad health, their shows plumitted to a laughable “great”.
Luckily they managed to recover just in time for a the preliminary of the 5th Festival, which they were set to play in Berlin, aptly dubbed the “Group of Death”. Playing an almost brandnew repertoire, they once again showed their inherent quality by playing a mind melting show, which - though only placing them 3rd in their own prelim - once again made them a top 10 live act.
Meanwhile, the band has been competing with Musiconomy for the position of most famous band in the world. More importantly, on Popogeddon Memorial Day of year 24, the band finally reached the position they had gotten so close to on several occasions; they are now the #1 band in Popomundo, according to the Who's Winning chart.
Though they were hit by flu on the same day (which Piet Haas quickly cured, despite being in a rival band), they are currently set for a mind melting tour of Europe to promote their new repertoire, before contending for the victory in the 5th Festival, held during the second week of September, in Los Angeles.
Since the punk rampage tour, they have also released several topselling records, including their epic album When Cowboys Lose Control, with the accompanying single One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, both of which have reached the top 15 of the best selling records ever. In the runup to the festival, they also released several top singles, the best of which is bound to break that magic barrier of 1 million records sold.
The future of the band after the festival is still unclear, though The Otis is confident that they will rock everyone's socks off.
