Kong were founded by Ed Keane, Luke Halland Fred Brady and started life as a cover band playing a few originals with both punk & modern rock stylings. The line up of Kong has changed a number of times over the years with the original band including well known musicians such as Ernest Mack, Rex Arce, Nate Rossi, Eleanor Bevan and Sean Angold. Ernest left very early after irreconcilable differences. The distance between Ernest & the band's practice sessions was several thousand miles meaning Mack never made it to a single jam and he prompty left to join Abu JahJah & The Burqa's.
Rex Arce left due to musical differences. Kong were heading down the Punk road while Rex was entrenched in the world of modern rock. The two couldn't go together and Rex went on to form Kaiser Chefs.
At around the same time, founding member Fred Brady also left the band to form The Brady Bunch band.
Sean had started to become more distant and the whole thing was looking bad for Kong. There was no harmony and amid member sackings, in-band squabbling and general confusion, they looked all washed up. Kong were left with just it's two guitarists, Ed Keane and Luke Hall, but neither were about to give up the dream.
Flip Reynolds and Eleanor Bevan were recruited as bass play & vocalist respectively and things started moving along again. Fame & money started coming their way and they were soon in the top 20 ranked Punk artists with a hardcore group of fans who lived & breathed Kong.
As they were on the rise Nate Rossi was recruited to fill the vacant drummers position. Nate was young & raw but his enthusiasm lifted everyone in the band & they soon rose again. Kong were bathed in success and it looked like the gods were finally shining on them.
It was around about this time that Fred Brady made amends & asked to come back. His life without Kong was hollow & lacked the passion of his old band. After a few beers & bruises, Fred was welcomed back.
Things were going great until Nate, disheartened by what he saw as a lack of commitment from all members, quit in the middle of the band's biggest tour to date. Kong were again a broken unit. Things looked hopeless, but the adversity they faced made the band stronger as a unit and in the weeks following Nate's departure, Kong lifted themselves to their best performances ever. From minor star to headliners, Kong was now one of the worlds most famous punk bands and attracting more & more fans everyday.
