Dean Holmes

Genre: Modern Rock
Starting Date: 2005-08-09
Members: Dean Holmes.

History

Dean began his first tour after being signed to a major Los Angeles based label in the year 18, starting off in his hometown LA and ending in Toronto, Canada before he returned home. This was followed with the promotional release of the Radio Edit of “Nothing Left” which failed to attract even the slightest attention from stations or buyers.

Dean Holmes, bitterly dissapointed from the backing he was receiving from a major label as a starting out artist, decided to part ways with the label, ripping the contract up infront of the General Manager in what he later described as a “stupidly stuborn and dramatic symbol” to his freedom.

Shortly after he was signed to Crystal Records, and released his first single “Side Effects” which ran out of stock. Despite this success, Dean wanted greatly to “crawl back under a rock and sing to a smokey pub full of drunks” as he put it in an interveiew with C2. He parted ways with the label after a disagreement over the direction of his next single, and formed his own label CATALYST RECORDS, with whom he still releases with today. ‘Side Effects’ a song about the Pharmaceutical industry and its exploitation has often been credited as the seed for his later Political Anthems such as “Weapon of Mass Deception”, “Infiniate Regress” and “Untergang”.

While ‘Side Effects’ (Single) sales were insignificant in comparison to many large releases, it far outperformed its expectations and was truly the beginning of Dean’s Career. His next single, “Weapon of Mass Deception” sold almost 100,000 copies and his third single, “Infiniate Regress” would more than double this. These were the three singles released to promote his debut Album “Side Effects’ (sometimes confused with the single of the same name). His first album would go on to sell more than 110,000 copies and spawn two world tours.

Following the tragic death of his daughter, Lexie Holmes, Dean returned to Europe for a funeral, and spent a long time on hiatus. He penned a number of songs about the death of his daughter and fiance. Most of these would culminate and become his second album, “Genocide by Any Other Name”. The album title, lead many to beleive it was in continuation of his Politically themed past. The title song is only one of a few on the album that continue these theme. Though some have expressed dissapointment his fans have defended the personal journey he must overcome. Dean has promised to return to more politically-themed songs with his third album.

“Genocide by Any Other Name” has sold more than 150,000 copies. Its two singles “Reverend, I have Sinned” and the STD Awareness track titled “She May Look Clean – But” sold more than 460,000 copies worldwide.

His latest single “Untergang”, a Political Anthem about the downfall of humanity in the aftermath of war was releaed on New Years Day 28.

To date, he has completed 4 world tours, 3 tours of the Americas, 4 European Tours as well as a number of other trips ‘Down Under’. He is currently performing his “Untergang” tour to promote the single of the same name.
